It is the wilds of Northern Michigan. I did see that they're adding on to the reform shul and I heard a radio advertisement for a meat store selling "kosher veal", but I didn't go check it out.
On my walk, I was thinking about what it would take to make a Jewish life there - without kids or hudband, no problem. With kids, I'd have to content myself with public school (not so problematic for me - at least up there) with my husband and myself teaching them Jewish subjects at home. Then there's the question of mikveh - not a problem in the summer, but in the winter it would be a bit of a sticky wicket. I wonder how hard it is to build a mikveh in one's yard?

This is actually four hours to the north of where I live.
Reminds me a bit of Berkeley...are you sure there is nothing going on Jewishly nearby? what a sweet-looking spot...
